Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We will fulfil our local and national responsibilities as laid out in statutory key documents which are listed in our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

and Christine Hodkinson is the safeguarding governor.

All adults at Wootton Bassett Infants' School have a duty of care towards pupils. This means we will act upon concerns working in line with our policies. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

If you have a concern about a child it is your responsibility to share the information promptly with the Designated Safeguarding team. The Safeguarding team can be contacted by emailing safeguarding@woottonbassett-inf.wilts.sch.uk.

Online Safety

Schools in England (and Wales) are required to ensure children are safe from terrorist and extremist material when accessing the internet in school, including by establishing appropriate levels of filtering. Furthermore, the Department for Education’s statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ obliges schools and colleges in England to “ensure appropriate filters and appropriate monitoring systems are in place and regularly review their effectiveness” and they “should be doing all that they reasonably can to limit children’s exposure to the above risks from the school’s or college’s IT system” however, schools will need to “be careful that “over blocking” does not lead to unreasonable restrictions as to what children can be taught with regards to online teaching and safeguarding.”

We have to meet digital and technology standards, that were outlined by the Department for Education Filtering and Monitoring Standards in March 2023.
