We are made up of a group of volunteers who all have an interest in our school, The Governing Body includes parents, staff members, and representatives of the community and the local authority.
Our skills and experience are diverse but we share the same aims – to challenge support and value the school in whatever way we can.
We are a Community school and we have Twelve governors; Two staff governors, Three parent governors, six co-opted governors and one authority governor.
As governors we make every effort to make ourselves available to parents and will do our best to help with any questions or comments that you have.
The Governors Objectives
Our aim is to work to achieve the aims of the school by:
- Challenging and supporting the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in managing the school.
- Seeking to appoint quality staff motivated to meet all the aims and objectives of the school.
- Valuing staff and children and their achievements.
- Promoting a positive image of the school within the wider community.
- Getting to know staff and children better, through regular school visits.
- Securing any available resources to benefit the school.
- Providing external skills and experience to assist in the management of the school.
- Representing the interest of parents.
How we work
The full governing body meet at least once every term. Minutes of our meetings are available in the school office for anyone to see, once they have been approved.
The governing body is divided into sub-committees to deal with the following matters:
The Curriculum – At Wootton Bassett Infants School, the curriculum is a feature of every governing body meeting and curriculum issues are shared with the whole of the governing body.
Staffing Sub-Committee are responsible for staffing matters including setting of staffing policy and assists the Headteacher with appointments.
Finance/Premises Sub-Committee looks at the structure and fabric of the school and grounds. They work with the Headteacher to agree the budget, subject to approval by the full governing body.
The sub-committees report to the full governing body meetings and make recommendations which are then agreed by the full governing body.
Who are the Governors?
Co-opted Governor: Mr Marcus Farr (Chair)
I have been a governor at the school since 2010 and Chair since 2012. I have a very strong connection with the school having attended myself many years ago and also with both my children attending the school in recent years. Since getting involved with the Governing Body I have enjoyed learning more about the role that the Governors play in the successful running of the school and enjoyed the effective partnership which exists between the staff and Governors at Wootton Bassett Infants. As Chair, I sit on all Committees and receive regular updates on all areas where the Governors have responsibility.
I can be contacted through the school on 01793 852254.

I have been working within HR for some 15 years and working with Local Government Authorities for the last 7 years. Many of my skills and experiences working with schools and governing bodies have helped me support the school in the short time I have been a governor.
